We are seeking a Senior Polymer Process Technologist to join the Evolution project team.

TotalEnergies Corbion is a global technology leader in Poly Lactic Acid (PLA) and lactide monomers. PLA is a biobased and biodegradable polymer made from annually renewable resources, offering a reduced carbon footprint versus many traditional plastics. The Luminy® PLA portfolio, which includes both high heat and standard PLA grades, is an innovative material that is used in a wide range of markets from packaging to consumer goods, fibers and automotive.

The Evolution project is the second PLA plant with a capacity ramping up to 100,000 tons per annum. This expansion would make TotalEnergies Corbion the global market leader in PLA, firmly positioned to cater for the rapidly growing demand for Luminy® PLA resins. The new plant is planned to be located on a Total site in Grandpuits (France) and to be operational in 2024.

The Senior Polymer Process Technologist will not only work as a key player during the whole duration of the Evolution project, but will also support the start-up and operations of the new plant after its completion as well as make key contributions to the development and improvement of the lactide process technology.

The role is based at Grandpuits, France. Expected regular travels and longer assignments to Thailand and Europe.

As a Senior Polymer Process Technologist you will be part of the Evolution project and be responsible for the following activities:


As part of the Evolution project: Lead engineering, commissioning and Start-up activities:

  • Bring your expertise and innovative ideas in the efforts to completion of the design.
  • Collaborate with Research and Development to ensure the development of robust, cost-effective processes.
  • Contribute to the engineering (from Conceptual to Detail) by creating, reviewing and validating engineering documents.
  • Support the deployment of Engineering and Process Safety standards within the design.
  • Participate in HAZOP, ATEX/NFPA and other safety reviews during the project.
  • Participate to the commissioning and start up activities and ensure a safe project start up.

After the Evolution project: Lead Lactide process technology development

  • Conduct process monitoring (follow up, troubleshooting, preventive solutions, performance improvements etc) of the existing plants.
  • Lead trial implementation of technology in pilot scale in order to provide proof for lab-scale technology.
  • Lead process performance optimization in order to increase efficiency, reduce cost and improve product quality.


Candidate’s profile:

  • Master/Engineer’s degree with specialization in chemical engineering/process technology/polymers.
  • At least 7 years of experience in the polymers or petrochemical industry.
  • Proven experience in projects
  • Good knowledge of crystallization/distillation/separation processes, process safety and quality
  • Proficiency in working with process simulation packages.
  • Fluency in French and English.
