Globally only 9% of plastic waste is recycled. The US president Joe Biden has recently announced that the USA aims to transition 90% of their plastic production to bioplastics. And the EU currently debates the position of bioplastics. While the world competes to develop compostable products made from sustainable materials, where does France want to be in this race?
In France, 27% of plastic packaging is currently recycled. The country has the conditions to be a leader in biobased and compostbale materials, however it lacks a governmental position to support innovation in the countries' biobased sector. Political decisions today will determine France's biobased economy leadership, and define whether the country will produce or import these new sustainable material solutions for years to come.
Join the press conference from the French Association of Compostables Biosources (AFCB), at 9h15 CET on the 21st September 2023. The participants will shed light on existing bioplastic solutions and innovation in the French market. The discussion is supported by the scientific study carried out by CoPack Chair - which confirms the biodegradation of certified compostable food packaging in real life conditions.
