What is the purpose of the job?

The main purpose of our Chemical Engineer Lactide is to further optimize the processes in our plant in Thailand, stay on track with our knowledge and capabilities incl. signaling patent opportunities: you are the main technology owner on the lactide capabilities. You are the specialist in this field of expertise and the go-to person when the people around you need support. In this role you work closely with our colleagues in the R&D Global Technology team in Gorinchem and with the team in Thailand - you are willing to travel there when needed as well. The role is a global role with a key focus on the processes in our plant in Thailand.  Join our team and play a key role in shaping our processes and driving innovation!

What is your specific duty?

Translating the purpose results in the following specific job activities:

  • Process development and support:
    • You tackle challenges in our existing plant, troubleshoot, and find preventive solutions for better performance.
    • You take the lead in testing out new technologies, moving from the lab to industrial scale.
    • You share your expertise across different functional areas to keep the collaboration strong.
  • Knowledge transfer:
    • You capture information from projects and other activities and assure the availability and dissemination of the required knowledge.
    • You signal patent opportunities and enable the full drafting process of patent applications.
    • You translate operational needs into technical improvement plans and define the scope of the R&D efforts needed.
    • You perform conceptual design studies for key innovation projects and maturing these designs through pilot trials and upscaling to FEED level design.
  • Technology owner:
    • You maintain the knowledge base and skills concerning relevant technologies.
    • You assure availability and transfer of the required knowledge to relevant groups in the field of expertise.
    • You scout for new technologies, make them applicable for the company.

What does your background and skillset look like?

It’s useful if you recognize yourself in the below profile.

  • Experience:
    • Minimum Master in chemical engineering, plus 2-4 years of engineering experience preferably in the field of chemical intermediates.
    • Knowledge of separation technologies like distillation, filtration and crystallization.
    • Keen eye on process safety and quality.
  • Knowledge & Skills:
  • Experience in design of new units operation, ideally from conceptual design to FEED.
  • Proficiency in working with process simulation packages (gPROMS, Aspen) and process analysis tools such as PI and Trendminer.
  • Strong communication skills; fluent in English. Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Thrives on working in a challenging environment.
